Before SummitClan became SummitClan, a group of rogues lived together in the mountains... In certain crevices around their rocky territory you could find bricks of colorful tightly packed powders. When mixed with water, these powders loosen and become thick paints. The cat's skin absorbs the dye, so that the folicals of each individual strand of fur is dyed as well as the fur on the outside that you can see, so that when the fur grows it continues to stay that color permenately. The rogues of the mountains found this out when one of the younger felines entered a crevice, drenched, to get out of the pouring rain. He was exhausted and freezing... Callasping onto the colorful powerds, he pass out.. When he awoke, his entire side was a mixture of bright colors. Of course, he didn't notice this... When he found his way back to the others, he recieved strange stares. He didn't know why until someone told him, and asked what had happened the night before. He explained everything and took them to the cave he had taken shelter in, for it had been very dry and would later come in handy for a cat in his situation. There, they found the dye.. and it has been a tradition for them since.
There are all different Dying Rituals. The first is when a kit is born. They will recieve a random design or designs before their eyes are even open. Then their is the Name Pattern. When a queen has decided on a name for her kit, the Dye Designer of the clan will give the kit another pattern or symbol that resembles the prefix of the chosen name in some way. The next ritual comes with one becoming an apprentice. This marks their way to becoming a warrior. It can be any random symbol or pattern, usually containing two or more colors. When the cat becomes a warrior they will recieve two separate symbols. One, The Mark of The Warrior, two, a symbol that represents their newly appointed warrior name. Now. If a cat becomes a medicine cat apprentice, they will recieve a pattern or symbol for that. When they become Medicine Cat, a maple leaf will be dipped in the dye and pressed against their hip. Each Medicine Cat will have this symbol. If a cat is chosen as deputy, the shape of a cresent moon will be imprinted onto their shoulder. And finally, leader. All leaders will have the symbol of a star on their foreheads.
