Aphidkit let Dewpaw pose her. She was beginning to feel a bit more like the sure-footed warriors that streaked through the forest, silent and deadly. Though she was aware she most likely looked like the kit she was - small and unbalanced. Though not near as much as before. Her weight was much more balanced bow, though she had to focus to keep it that way. She began to move forward, a bit faster and better than before. She felt she had a chance of catching something live now.

Dewpaw sat down, grinning as she watched Aphidkit stalk forward.
"You're doing great!" she meowed, and she knew she meant it. "Keep going! There's a mouse, right there! Make sure it doesn't feel your pawsteps!"
Dewpaw glanced at the dead mouse in the fresh-kill pile, then at Aphidkit, watching as she crawled across the camp.

As Aphidkit astalked forward, she focused on kleeping her weight even and her steps silent. There was a suprising amout of focus that went into it, and her paw slipped once, but it was only a tiny trip that barely made a sound. There was a small patch of grass btween her and the fresh-kill pile - pretending it was a bramble bush. she crouched behind it, preparing to pounce. She lept, not near as high as she would have been able to had she been trained to do that as well, but it was faster than most un-trained pounces. She landed directly on the moyse, instantly biting its already broken neck.

Dewpaw rushed forward, grinning and purring. She did it! Well, she did it about as good as a kit of her size and age could, at least. And it turned out really good. She might even be able to catch something that is alive, or so Dewpaw thought.
"That was great!" she exclaimed. "You stalked that mouse like a real apprentice! Now you've got something to show off to your brother." She smiled, then turned to Harlequinpaw. Would he still want to teach her some moves? She was nervous as to how paitent he would be around her.

Harlequinpaw watched as Aphidkit pounced on the dead mouse on the fresh-kill pile. He had to admit, he was rather surprised. He had expected her to crash and burn again. Dewpaw turned to him, and he rose to his paws, licking the scraps of mouse meat off of his whiskers. "My turn," He meowed, his eyes hollow and emotionless.

Dewpaw nodded, forcing herself to smile at Harlequinpaw as he padded up to Aphidkit. Scared that he would be really impaitent with her, and also curious about what he would show the little kit, she decided to stay and watch their training session.
Dewpaw padded closer to the fresh-kill pile and chose a small vole to eat so she had an excuse to be there. She settled down and began to chew a mouthful of the warm meat, watching the two cats closely.

Silversong padded over to the fresh kill pile, his stomach growling. " Hello Dewpaw." he greeted the apprentice when he saw her. "How are you today?" he added, blinking in a friendly way.

Dewpaw turned to see her friend, Silversong, standing behind her.
"Hey, Silversong!" she meowed with a smile. "I just taught Aphidkit how to do the hunter's crouch. It was kinda hard, and she had trouble with it, but you should've seen her just now! She was just like an apprentice." she paused, purring. Then she turned to look at Harlequinpaw and Aphidkit.
"But Harlequinpaw wanted to teach her some moves, too," she said quietly. "I'm kinda nervous that he'll be too impaitent with her."
((Hey, does Silversong have an apprentice? If not, can he mentor Dewpaw? =3))

Aphidkit purred at her praise, then turned her blue eyes apon Harlequinpaw. She was excited as to what he was going to teach her - after all, he was a notable apprentice. But at thye same time she was a bit wary of him, for he wasn't the most patient cat. But she would try her best.

ooc: No, he doesn't. He'll be happy to mentor Dewpaw. ^^
bic: Silversong laughed, a deep rumbling laugh. "Impressive. I'm sure Aphidkit will be an excellent apprentice when she reaches her sixth moon." He glanced at the kit's way, eyes sparkling with amusement as he saw Harlequinpaw.
"I see you and Harlequinpaw trying to teach Aphidkit some moves." he meowed, amusingly.

"It would appear so," Harlequinpaw meowed to Silversong. Turning back to Aphidkit, he meowed, "Now, pay close attention. I don't like repeating myself." He crouched low to the ground, his eyes trained on Aphidkit. "We'll start with something simple. Now, keep your eyes on your opponent. Never look away. It could kill you if you look away for even a heartbeat. Now, your opponent should run at you. When they do, you press yourself flat against the ground," he demonstrated, dropping himself right on the ground. "and kick out with your hind legs. If your coordination and timing are good enough, you should hit them right in the middle of their stomach." Harlequinpaw kicked up his back legs, imagining a large warrior standing above him. "This should stun them long enough for a quick cat to wriggle out from under their stomach and attack from behind. This move is also useful if you have a partner to help you. Once the opponent is stunned, the partner can attack from behind while you continue to batter their stomach. Now, you try." Harlequinpaw got to his paws and stared expectantly at Aphidkit.

Aphidkit crouched like she had just learned. She waited a moment then -assuming her opponent would be coming about now - dropped onto her stomac. This part she got about right. But when she kicked her back legs up, she didn't get them down quite fast enough to keep her balance, and ended up with her back half collapsed and her legs sprawled out behind her. She quickly scrambled back up onto them, but she had already lost quite a few moments that Harleequinpaw had deemed so precious.

Dewpaw smiled and nodded to Silversong.
"Yeah, it was fun being like a mentor, even though I'm not that far into my training yet." she meowed happily, feeling proud of herself. "But I'm so glad she learned it, and you're right, she will be a great apprentice."

Silversong twitched an ear. "Certainly." he laughed. "Maybe you could mentor her?" He glanced at Harlequinpaw. "Harlequinpaw would make a great mentir too, just like Dewpaw." he murmured, too soft for his apprentice to hear.
"Hey Harlequinpaw! Maybe you should show Aphidkit the correct way?" he teased, winking at Dewpaw at the same time.
ooc: *hugs Silversong*

Harlequinpaw shook his head in irritation, sighing. "OK," he meowed. "I'll show you one more time. You have to keep your balance." He crouched and repeated the steps until he came to Aphidkit's trouble spot. "Here," he meowed. "You have you bring your paws back down as quickly as possible, but not until after you've given your opponent a good strike in the underbelly. And make sure you land right on the center of your paws, so you don't fall over." Harlequinpaw demonstrated. "You can bring out your claws, too, if you think it might help you sustain your balance better, but you need to put them back as soon as possible. Your opponent can't have time to recover." Harlequinpaw demonstrated the whole routine one last time and then flicked his tail in Aphidkit's direction. "Now you try."
