Fernstripe looked at Shadestar. If they wanted Thornkit to die, she didn't care. She got up, fur bristling, like she was getting ready to fight, just in case. "I was with rogues all night. Is that a problem?" she asked. She didn't lie. She knew they could tell what she had been doing. It didn't matter to her.
"But if I leave, poor little Thornkit will die. I would take him with me, but he seems to dedicated to this pitiful excuse of a clan." she hissed. Really, she could care less. But she wouldn't actually fight her son, to kill him. Leaving him without food was something much different.
Thornkit didn't protest when Hictorytail picked him up, nor did he squirm as she padded outside of the den. He stayed as silent and still as he could. She and Shadestar were a higher rank then him, and he would do as he was told, without a word. If they wanted him out of the nursery, then so be it.
Once she had set him down, he watched her with his amber eyes, trying to keep himself from even looking toward the nursery. He could, however sense that his mother was angry, and he could sense how she would be every time before running off. He didn't care. 'Let her run off! She's a traitor! I'll find a way to survive! I don't need her!' he thought. This time, he really meant it.
He couldn't care any less that his mother was most likely going to be kicked of of the clan, and that she would run off, without even saying a word to him. What would be different anyways? Thornkit knew that eventually he would pull through. He wasn't going to die a kit. He would serve his clan, and stay as loyal as any warrior, and do everything as good as he possibly can. He wouldn't let TimberClan down, like his mother is.

Shadestar's fur stood on end. His yelloe eyes flashed and he didn't respond, but his eyes followed Hickorytail as she left the nursery. Fernstripe was needed to keep Thornkit alive. But in Shadestar's mind, Thornkit was going to have to die. Fernstripe could be telling the Rouges all their secrets - she knew everything about their clan, and a rouge attack with her in the lead would be the death of many cats in the clan. Letting one kit die to prevent this, though it saddened Shadestar deepley, was nesecary.
His eyes snapped back to Fernstripe. His fur was flat, his voice dull. He hated the decision he was making. "Leave, Fernstripe. Leave now."

The wind chilled her, as it pushed through even her thick coat. "Very well. Let little Thornkit die, and we will all see what StarClan has in store for you." she hissed, before padding out of the den, head and tail held high.
As she reached where Hicorytail and Thornkit were, she paused and smirked. "Well, little Thornkit, they are going to let you die. Good luck with Clan life." she said, before disappearing out of camp.
"Traitor." Thornkit hissed as her tail followed her out. He didn't dare chase her, or try and claw her, as he knew that rogues were probably waiting for her, and he knew that it wouldn't be respectable if he did so.
He looked back at Hicorytail. There was a slight pride in his eyes. The sadness had gone. They shone with happiness, but somewhere, deep down, he was worried. "I will survive, and I will serve my clan." he said. Though it was almost as if he was trying to convince himself.
Being as young as he was, could he survive? He swallowed, though quickly shook the uncertainty away. It wasn't time to think of these thoughts. But what would become of him? Surely it wasn't good for a kit to grow up without a mother? He rolled his eyes. Like the one he had only seconds ago? Yeah right. He would be fine. He had to be. He had gone without food for awhile, he could survive! Couldn't he?

Shadestar was obviously notr very happy as he padded out of the nursery. He would have to call a patrol to make sure Fernstripe left camp, but first he was going to talk to Hickorytail, and the medicine cat. He was going to ask if there was any thing to feed to a kit that young to keep him alive - or maybe something to add to meat? Maybe it was just as simple as chewing the meat up really good. Shadestar thought Thornkit would die, but he was at least going to try to prevent it.
"Hickorytail!" Shadestar mewed to the shecat. As his eyes had followed her out of the nursery, he had noticed the way she had looked at Thornkit. Shadestar had never seen Hickorytail look at anyone like that, and he needed to assign someone to take care of Thornkit untill he either was apprenticed or, starclan forbid, died. "I need to talk to you."

Hickorytail watched Fernstripe trot up to them, she glared but kept her mouth shut, gritting her teeth at her words. 'He won't die. Just you watch.' She thought to herself, grinding her teeth together even harder, so she wouldn't be tempted to say these words aloud. She watched the she-cat leave camp, and listened as little Thornkit hissed after her. Traitor. That's what he had said. He, Thornkit, had admited it to himself. He knew. He was no longer trying to convince himself that maybe, just maybe she wasn't a horrible mother, that she hadn't betrayed her clan. Hickorytail couldn't hide her smile, when she lowered her gaze to see Thornkit's expression. He looked happy. Relieved. She was gone. He wouldn't have to worry about her anymore. Though the smile didn't last long. It disappeared once she remembered that he couldn't live without his mother's milk. He'd starve.
Before she could say anything to Thornkit, she heard Shadestar call her name. Turning toward the tom, she dipped her head, "Yes, Shadestar?"

Shadestar was a bit edged off, and spoke low so Thornkit wouldn't hear. "Thornkit needs someone to take care of him untill he either dies, or is apprenticed. You're very fond of him, aren't you? I saw the way you look at him." Shadestar hoped she would accept. He knew it wasn't a very Hickorytail thing to do... plus, if she said no, then he would just order her to. Oh, the joys of being leader.

Hickorytail's expression was one of shock, she almost felt offended. Swallowing, she blinked the surprise from her eyes, and nodded. Did she really, actually care about someone? Is it that easy to tell? Are my emotions that not well hidden? And if he had noticed, who else had? Why am I getting so worked up over this anyways? Since when was it a bad thing to care about someone? It wasn't a bad thing. It just wasn't her thing. She didn't even really care about herself. Snapping back into reality, Hickorytail nodded. "Yes, I'll take care of her, Shadestar." Her voice was quite, serious, and soft. Gentle, was not Hickorytail either. It was strange. She must've really liked this, Thornkit. Turning back to the kit, she gave a half smile, happines and sadness lingering in her eyes, she couldn't make up her mind which one to choose. It was as if they were on a scale, one thing would happen causing happiness to weigh down the other side, then she'd realize the horrible truth and sadness would drowned the happiness.

"Thankyou, Hickorytail." Shadestar mewed, sounding sincere. He turned to Thornkit. "Thornkit, Hickorytail is taking care of you now." Without another word, he padded away. Today had been a day full of heavy desicions. Rapidglance rushed up to him after he was a few foxlengths away, and was talking before he had time to avoid her. "Thats a big decision, Shadestar. Are you sure you want to make it that fa-"
"Yes, Rapidglance, I'm sure!" Shadestar snapped suddenly. "You know, your always questioning me. You think your so smart! Well your not- your not leader, not deputy, your no one! Get outt of my face!" And with that, he hurried off, slipping into his den.
Rapidglance stood there, shocked. She had always known she irratated Shadestar - but she never knew he felt that way. How could he hate her, his own sister, that much? She felt tears burn her eyes, and managed to blink them away. She had only been trying to help.

Thornkit could feel fear grip his heart. Was he a lost cause? He was going to die, wasn't he? He would never get to serve his clan, even as an apprentice. He would never get to be even five moons old. He would die young, and die without showing his true loyalty to the clan.
"Thornkit, Hickorytail is taking care of you now." he heard his leader say. His head shot up, and his ears flicked. He wouldn't let a warrior, or any cat, for that matter, see how much this scared him! Who was he to think such thoughts anyways! He would pull through!
He straightened up, and turned his amber gaze to Hickorytail. He bowed his head. "Thank you for your kindness." he said, much unlike a normal kit his age. He would be respectful. He would keep from calling her 'mother', he would not try and curl up to her. She wasn't his mother, and he didn't expect her to be.
Only when she showed a sign that she wanted to be his mother, or motherly figure, he should say, would he do any of this. Only then, would he try to impress her, and get her to be proud of him. He wouldn't fall into another trap, like he did with his mother. Though if he fell into this one, he wouldn't be as hurt in the end.
"May we go back to the nursery, now? I feel a little sleepy." he said, getting to his paws. He felt the hard, cold dirt underneath them. 'One day, I will be a strong warrior, and I will have the respect of my fellow warriors. I will be a better warrior then my mother had ever been.' he vowed to himself.

A frown crossed the she-cat's mask as he heard his question. He sounded upset again, a little scared, but still strong. She was amazed at how well he was taking this. Nodding, she picked him up by the scruff again, a soft purring started in her throat, maybe that would comfort him. Even if just a little. Making her way to the nusery, she kept up the purring, something she hadn't done much, though it reassured her a bit. Padding through the crevice, into the nusery, she placed Thornkit on a moss nest near the back, but not too far back. Her glowing green eyes flickered back toward the entrance... she was thinking again.
"Want to talk about it?" Hickorytail mewed softly, gazing in Thornkit's direction once more. She lay down beside him, pulling him close with her right forepaw. Her golden eyes glimmered with a soft ray of light that bounced off of them, shining through one of the gaps in the trees overhead. Laying her head onto her paws, she ducked away from the light that irritated her eyes and made her vision dark and blury. Her pointed tail, stretched out behind her, still. Camp was quiet again. Everything had settled down. The rush of fury had left Hickorytail's veins. She cleared her thoughts, ready to listen. To hear whatever Thornkit had to say, he needed to let out all of those emotions. And once he was done, she'd try her best to comfort him. Of course, she had no idea if she'd be good at this or not, but she'd try. She wouldn't give up. That's for sure. Giving up was definitely not what Hickorytail was known for. She was very determined, very stubborn, actually.

ooc; Him. XD
Thornkit flinched slightly. The only time that his mother had pulled him close, was to whisper harsh words. When Hicorytail spoke, he opened his amber eyes, and looked at her for awhile. He didn't know her. Why should he say anything.
Thornkit swallowed hard. "Am I going to die?" he asked. The question didn't have even a hint of fearfulness in it. It was asked plainly, as if he was asking if he could share prey with someone, like most kits do when they get older.
His face remained blank, unreadable. It had been one of the useful things he had picked up from his mother. Inside, he was crying and yowling, asking why StarClan had let this happen to him. Outside, he was clam, like a small leaf in a tree on a windless day.

She froze, and her glowing eyes darted away from his view quickly. Lately, she had found out that she wasn't the best at hiding her emotions, and she didn't want the kit to see what was within the golden depths of her eyes. They'd give away everything, and he needed to be reassured, comforted, not worried. Blinking, she tried her best to look confident when she turned back in his direction. "Of course not." She mewed enthusiastically. "I won't let that happen. I promise." Her voice was so soft, so caring, that she surprised herself. It was almost like a different cat speaking. There was no bitterness, no smirks added to the end of her words, and she was smiling again.

Thornkit was silent for a moment, as if he was trying to see past her mask. But he wasn't. He was stuck on thoughts that seemed like they lingered in the air, like most leaves lingered on a pool of water.
He didn't have anything else to say. Nothing at all. he laid down, careful not to actually curl up to her. He rested his head on his paws, and closed his eyes. He was half asleep, but at the same time, he was dreaming.
He was bigger, stronger..... he was a warrior of TimberClan. It seemed that he wasn't in the camp. He was quickly moving through the roots, branches, and anything else that was there. His heart was pounding as he followed a familiar sent.
"Fernstripe!" he yowled as he neared it. He could see his mother, talking with rogues. She had a smirk on her face as she turned to him. "It's Stripedblood, now." she hissed, before her, and the rogues jumped on him, causing him to actually jump, and lift his head quickly, eyes snapping open.
ooc; The only thing he /actually/ did, to where Hicorytail could hear/see it, was him jumping.

ooc: hehe, mmkay. ^-^ bic:
Hickorytail's eyes had been closed for sometime now, though she was sure she hadn't been sleeping. Feeling the tiny kit's body jolt, her eye lids opened, glowing green rays shooting out of them, like a lazer, in the darkness. She blinked a few times, and lifted her head from her paws, craning her neck to see if Thornkit was alright. His head was up now too, had he fallen asleep? Well, either way, now he was wide awake. "Everything alright, Thornkit?" She mewed, noticing that her purring had stopped. Maybe she had fallen asleep after all.

Thornkit's amber eyes were tracing the place on his leg, where in his dream there would now be a gash. It was almost like he had to make sure that the dream hadn't been true. He wasn't awear that he had waken Hicorytail untill she spoke.
"Everything alright, Thornkit?" he heard her say. Sighing, he glanced up at her, quiet. 'My dream wasn't real. But it actually hurt. I could feel the fur on their pelts, and I could see them vividly. How could it have not been a dream?' he thought.
Thornkit nodded. "Yes, Hickorytail. It was just a dream. Dreams can't fight back." he said, laying his head down on his paws again. Or could they? This dream gave him everything that he would have felt. His jaws sinking into skin, warm blood leeking into his mouth, pelts that were bristled, and even wounds that were made..... Was he going crazy?
